Back Talks on for Rs 2,000-cr DFID aid for AP

THE State Government is negotiating for a Rs 2,000-crore aid from the Department for International Development (DFID), UK, to take up development works across sectors.

The Finance Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, today held discussions with the DFID India representative, Ms Susan Moorehead, highlighting the areas of State interest.

The sectors of interest conveyed to the UK official covered irrigation, urban and rural development, welfare and education.

According to sources, the Government is keen on DFID funds since it comes as a grant. The UK official is stated to be appreciative of the strides made by the State Government with regards to implementation of citizens' charter and e-governance.

A State Cabinet sub-committee is in the process of working out a detailed plan and reform agenda and priorities to address them.

This panel is headed by the Finance Minister, Mr Rosaiah, and includes ministers of irrigation, school education, social welfare, rural development and municipal administration.
