Back Delphi in pact with WorldSpace to make mobile radio

DELPHI Corporation, the global leader in automotive systems and components, has signed an agreement with WorldSpace Inc, the global satellite radio broadcaster, to make mobile satellite radio available in Asia.

In a press release here, Delphi said the partners would initially launch and market Delphi-WorldSpace mobile satellite radio receivers in India. Subsequently, they plan to expand the products' availability to China.

According to Delphi, the product is expected to be available in the Indian market in the first half of 2006.

The agreement calls for Delphi to provide hardware that would deliver uninterrupted access to the WorldSpace satellite radio network, which currently provides more than 35 radio stations across India.

The Delphi-WorldSpace mobile satellite radio receivers would be designed to receive and decode the WorldSpace satellite signal seamlessly throughout India and, in future, in other markets where WorldSpace service is available.

The Delphi Product & Service Solutions Managing Director, Asia-Pacific, Mr Dominic Seto, said: "We expect Delphi-WorldSpace mobile satellite radio to fundamentally transform the mobile listening experience in India".
