Back L&T consortium bags Tata Steel order

MUMBAI: Larsen & Toubro Ltd and its international consortium partners have bagged two major EPC (engineer-procure-construct) contracts valued at Rs 1,550 crore for Tata Steel's 2.4-million tonne expansion project in Jamshedpur.

L&T's share in these projects will be Rs 1,000 crore.

One contract is for India's largest blast furnace with a capacity of 2.5 mt of steel per year valued at Rs 1,190 crore. L&T's construction division will execute the contract in consortium with Paul Wurth Italia within 32 months.

The order was won against stiff competition from Chinese bidders, said a news release from L&T, whose share in this project will be Rs 713.9 crore.

The second Rs 360 crore contract, in which L&T's consortium partner is Germany-based Outokumpu Technologies, is for a 2.3-million tonne per annum sinter plant, to be built in 24 months. L&T's share in this project is Rs 288 crore.
