Back Power sector attracts over Rs 3,500-cr FDI Our Bureau
New Delhi , Aug. 5 THE power sector has received over Rs 3,500 crore foreign direct investment since January 2002. The actual FDI inflows during January 2002 to May 2005 amounted to Rs 3,559.06 crore with Mauritius alone accounting for nearly 80 per cent of the investments at Rs 2,819.96 crore, the Power Minister, Mr P.M. Sayeed, informed Lok Sabha in a written reply. The UK and the US were the second and third largest investors pumping in Rs 300 crore and Rs 154 crore, he said adding other prominent investors included Germany, France and Finland. In reply to another query, he said the sector received Rs 1,894 crore as financial assistance for projects from multilateral agencies such as the ADB and the World Bank last fiscal.
