Hyderabad , Aug. 5

GOOD communication skills are the key for young Indian professionals to grab the opportunities emerging with increased investments in the country and globally, said the Speaker of the State Assembly, Mr K.R. Suresh Reddy.

Though Indians are hardworking, sometimes their lack of such skills is holding them back, he said while inaugurating the two-day National Convention on Corporate Communications organised by the Public Relations Council of India here today.

Emphasising the role of public relations, Mr Reddy said that sometimes a good work does not reach the target audience as there is no link communicator.

For example, he said the IT benefits are slow to reach rural people, because they are not able to understand broadband, high-speed connectivity etc. However, if you say that they could pay their bills easily without coming to Hyderabad through online facilities, they would understand it better. The Speaker saw an important role for PR officers and personnel to drive home messages more effectively.

Mr Reddy felt that environmental issues were also becoming a major cause of concern now as huge investments and projects are coming in. Noted journalist, Mr S. Venkatnarayan, in his keynote address said with international corporates coming to India and Indian multinationals expanding abroad, a good number of qualified PR professionals would be needed. Pointing out that the present academic institutes were not able to produce the expected quality personnel, he called for strengthening the curricula and practical training to meet the challenges.
