SYMBOL Technologies today launched its entry-level enterprise digital assistant (EDA) and a bar code scanner in the Indian market, targeted at retail, transport and logistics, manufacturing, and warehousing verticals.

Priced at about $700, the MC1000 is positioned as a `rugged EDA' with an in-built bar code scanner and an expansion slot that can take wireless LAN and Bluetooth cards, said Mr G. Sathiyakumar, Regional Sales Manager (India).

"We hope to sell 5,000 to 10,000 units of the handheld in the next 12 months. We have already bagged an order from the Delhi-based Sugal and Damani group for MC1000 mobile computers," he added.

MC1000 supports numeric entry applications such as inventory management, stock checking, delivery confirmation, and other scan-intensive applications, he said.

The bar code scanner, LS9203, is priced at $293.
