Siddaramaiah, others rebuffed by Janata Dal (S)

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: In a significant development, the Janata Dal (Secular) has virtually barred those of its members who have associated themselves with the Federation of Backward Classes, Dalits and Minorities from attending party meetings, without expelling them. They have been politely told that they are not welcome at a meeting of State office-bearers of the party to be held here on August 18. It will be attended by national party president H.D. Deve Gowda.

Party general secretary Y.S.V. Datta has said that "there is no necessity" for those who have identified themselves with AHIND (the federation) and those who are going to join it to attend the August 18 meeting.

Thus, those excluded from the meeting include the former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who has been maintaining that he is still with the JD(S).

Mr. Datta said the August 18 meeting will discuss political developments in the State.
