Record entries confirmed for Himayala Cup

Hyderabad: A record 64 schools from Hyderabad and Secunderabad have confirmed their participation in the second Himalaya Chyavanprash Cup under-15 inter-school cricket tournament, which will be sponsored by The Himalaya Drug company. The Hyderabad leg of the tournament will begin on August 22.

Details were announced at a press conference jointly addressed by Shivlal Yadav, Secretary of the Hyderabad Cricket Association, and officials from the sponsors and promoters' bodies.

The tournament is being held across five cities in India. It is in progress in Bangalore and Hyderabad is the second in the list. The remaining ones will be conducted in Delhi, Lucknow (or Kanpur) and Jamshedpur.

An inter-city tournament involving the city level winners will comprise the final phase.

The tournament will be conducted with the help of PROCAM International (the promoters) and matches will be held under the aegis of the Hyderabad Cricket Association at various schools in the twin cities.

Besides trophies for the winner and runner-up, there will be cash prizes of Rs. 9,000 for the winner and Rs. 6,000 for the runner-up. There will be man-of-the-match awards, and T-shirts and caps will be provided to all the players.

Praneeth, Sundeep shine

Praneeth Kumar (130) and Sundeep Rajan (167 not out) helped R.Dayanand CC score 516 for nine in its first innings against Budding Stars in the A Division two day matches league cricket tournament on Friday.

Ours CC 311 drew with Continental 285 (Shravan 66, Zeeshan Nehri 93 not out, Waseem Ali six for 72).

Crown CC 351 for eight (Seshagiri 99, T.Chandrasekhar 61, Kiran 50) vs Nizam College.

C Div:

Karimnagar DCA 135 for nine (Srikanth 51) lost to Rajus CC 136 for two (M.Pradeep 41, Naveen 64). — Special Correspondent
