Back Benchmarks for I-T collection

HYDERABAD: Mr T. K. Dewan, Special Chief Secretary and Chief Commissioner of Land Administration, has asked the Income-Tax Department to benchmark itself against developing and developed countries on tax collection procedures.

Inaugurating the three-day meet on TDS (tax deducted at source) organised by the I-T Department, he said the process of I-T collections witnessed a sea change in the last two decades, making it easier for the payee.

"But this is not enough. We should benchmark procedures against those in developing countries," he said. About 240 representatives from various Government organisations attended the conference.
