THE Kolkata-based Xenitis Infotech Pvt Ltd has launched a personal computer (PC) at Rs 9,990 in the Kerala market, targeting first-time home PC users and those who have basic computing requirements.

The computer, powered by Cyrix 1.0 Ghz processor, comes with a Red Hat Linux operating system, a 40 GB hard disk, 128 MB RAM and a 15" colour monitor.

Xenitis Infotech sells its computers under various brands across the country — `Apna PC' in the North, `Amchi PC' in Maharashtra and `Amar PC' in West Bengal.

"This is a new segment of PCs, targeted at first-time computer buyers or those who want to give a basic computer to kids. People who need a PC for basic computing use, such as word processing, also buy this PC," said Mr Subramanyam Kantheti, General Manager - South, Xenitis Infotech.

Earlier this month, HCL Infosystems introduced a sub-Rs 10,000 PC in the market. The launch of such low-priced computers is expected to increase PC penetration in India.

The Rs 178-crore Xenitis Infotech has had orders for about 5,000 units of the low-priced computers across the country.

The company is upgrading its production facility to make 1,000 computers a day, from the present capacity of 500-600 units. This fiscal, it expects revenues to touch Rs 500 crore.
