Chief Minister's Krishnashtami greetings

HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has extended warm greetings to people on the occasion of Krishnashtami on Friday.

Book on rural economy released

HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has said that the Government is taking all steps to improve rural economy and hopes that rural transformation will be seen in two years.

He was speaking after releasing a book "Rural transformation in India - the impact of globalisation', a compilation of articles by academicians, economists and researchers and edited by A. Vinayak Reddy and G. Bhasker of the Department of Economics, Kakatiya University, Warangal, here on Thursday. Special Correspondent

Maoists blast Congress leader's house

MAHBUBNAGAR: Members of the outlawed CPI (Moaist) blasted a house belonging to senior the Congress leader, Niranjan Reddy, at Penimella village of Uppununthala mandal on Thursday.

According to information reaching the district headquarters, three armed Maoists came to the house around 3 p.m., called out family members, laid the explosives and detonated them. A note left by them at the spot contained their demand to lift the ban on them immediately or face intensified attacks on Congress leaders. They also condemned the killing of Kanakachari, a leader of the Democratic Teachers Federation in Mahbubnagar district on Wednesday. __Correspondent

Action urged against self-styled outfits

HYDERABAD: The Organisation for Protection of Democratic Rights (OPDR) has asked the Government to file criminal cases against self-styled outfits such as Narsa Cobras, Green Tigers, Nallamalla Tigers and Nalla Dandu.

OPDR general secretary C. Bhaskara Rao and organising secretary V. Narayana Reddy, in a press release issued here on Thursday, said a case under Section 302 of the IPC should be booked against activists of Narsa Cobras, a self-styled outfit, which vowed to eliminate human rights activists. They civil rights activist and Telugu pandit, Kanakachari, was brutally hacked to death in Mahabubnagar within a week of a threat issued by Narsa Cobras to eliminate several human rights activists. TIRUPATI : The First Additional District Judge, Chittoor, S. Shyamprasad has slapped a three months Rigorous Imprisonment and levied a penalty of Rs.5000 or six months RI in the event of default on one Neelakantha Reddy of Karakantapuram, Nagari mandal. According to the charge sheet filed against the convict by the Inspector of Police, Vigilance (APSPDCL), S.M. 22 old non-serious cases withdrawn

ADILABAD: The State Government has withdrawn 22 old cases registered at different police stations in Adilabad district related to offences of non- serious nature under the Andhra Pradesh Public Security Act and different sections of Indian Penal Code.

WARANGAL: Senior leader of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Revuri Prakash Reddy, has been appointed president of the party's district unit.

Taking charge of the affairs of the party here on Thursday, Mr. Prakash Reddy vowed to bring the party back to past glory.

KURNOOL: Maharashtra Home Minister Siddharam Mehta worshiped at Mahanandi temple in Kurnool district on Thursday.

According to reports, the Executive Officer of the temple, Babulnath and the MRO, Laxmaiah, received the Minister and accorded full temple honours.

SAI scholarship for chess player

TIRUPATI: Sports Authority of India (SAI) has sanctioned sports scholarship to T.V.R. Vijayaraghavan, a budding chess player of Tirupati.

Vijayaraghavan won the bronze medal in national Under-13 chess championship in 2003. He is studying junior intermediate in Sri Chaitanya educational institutions here.

Bankers urged to extend crop loans

CHITTOOR: The district Collector S.S. Rawath has urged bankers to give crop loans to 5,000 persons to whom pattas were given to an extent of 6,675 acres during the second phase of land distribution programme. Addressing a meeting of the bankers he said that necessary documents pertaining to the land were handed over to the beneficiaries.

He urged bankers not to collect Rs. 150 from the beneficiaries towards service charges.

MRPS demand classification of SCs

MADANAPALLE: The State unit president of Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi Dandu Veeriah demanded classification of Scheduled castes on a priority basis. He was speaking at a public meeting in Madanapalle on Thursday.

Mr. Veeriah alleged that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy is against classification of SCs. The MRPS State vice-president P.T.M. Sivaprasad Madiga was also present on the occasion. - Correspondent
