BANGALORE: A special team, led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Fraser Town), Victor S. D' Souza, has arrested Tharakari Khaleel, against whom there are 31 criminal cases, and his two accomplices and seized from them four country-made pistols, three magazines and 40 rounds of live ammunition. Khaleel is said to have been a vegetable vendor before he turned to criminal activities. The Commissioner of Police, Ajai Kumar Singh, told presspersons on Thursday that the police team raided Khaleel's hideout in the Fraser Town police station limits on Wednesday. On seeing the police, Khaleel took out his pistol but the police opened fire in the air and asked Khaleel to surrender. They arrested him and seized from him some of the weapons and ammunitions, he said. The police raided Khaleel's hideout on the information given by his two accomplices who were arrested on August 6. The names of his two accomplices were given as Chand Pasha alias Syed Chand (22) of Nala Road in Shivajinagar and Syed Ziaullah (30) of Wilson Garden. The police seized from them a pistol and three rounds of ammunition. The police are on the lookout for nearly 15 accomplices of Khaleel who are at large, he said. Khaleel (32), a resident of Vinayakanagar in Wilson Garden, was wanted in three criminal cases registered against him in the Wilson Garden and Siddapura police stations. There are eight warrants pending against him. In all, there are 31 cases of murder, attempt to commit murder, dacoity, robbery and kidnapping against him. The first case against Khaleel was registered in the Seshadripuram police station in 1990. He was a member of the Tanveer gang, the Police Commissioner said.
