Mangalore , Aug. 26

BHARAT Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has set a target of providing 10,000 DataOne broadband connections in Dakshina Kannada Telecom District during the current financial year. Dakshina Kannada and Udupi revenue districts come under Dakshina Kannada Telecom District.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Mr T.N. Sudhindra, Principal General Manager of Dakshina Kannada Telecom District, said that DataOne broadband connections are available in 32 telephone exchanges. Till now 700 connections have been given in the district. "The plan is to take the total number of connections to 10,000 by the end of the current financial year," he said.

The Dakshina Kannada Telecom District has a capacity to provide 15,000 DataOne broadband connections.

He said that asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) technology is being used to provide broadband service. Under this, connections are provided through copper telephone lines.

BSNL will soon introduce other services such as multi-casting, video-conferencing, video-on-demand and broadcast applications.

Broadband-ready PC

Mr Sudhindra also announced the launch of BSNL HCL PC for DataOne broadband customers in Mangalore on the occasion. These multimedia broadband-ready PCs are available in four different models, he said.

Mr B.P. Pillai, Associate Regional Manager (Marketing), HCL Infosystems Ltd, said that all BSNL HCL PCs would come with a three-year warranty.

HCL Infosystems will provide free installation of DataOne broadband for customers buying BSNL HCL PC, he said. These PCs can be booked through BSNL customer service centres or through dealers of HCL Infosystems Ltd.

Mr Pillai said that a road show on multimedia broadband-ready PCs would be held at Saibeen Complex at Mangalore on August 27 and 28. There are also plans to hold such road shows in some of the corporate houses in the city, he added.
