THE Union Government has allocated Rs 90 crore more for the expansion and development work at Visakhapatnam airport, taking the total project cost to Rs 410 crore, said Mr Pravin Prakash, District Collector.

After a review meeting on the airport expansion and development works here on Monday, he said three more aerobridges would be constructed and runway extended.

The terminals would be developed with night landing facilities. He said a meeting would be held in New Delhi on Vizag airport works on Wednesday. With the construction of three more aerobridges, it would be possible for four aircraft to land and take off at the airport.

Mr Prakash said all efforts would be made to complete the works by December 2006, or at least by January 2007. He said a special drainage scheme had been taken up at a cost of Rs 8.5 crore to divert the floodwater to the sea and facilitate the expansion of the airport.
