Back Women lawyers back Nalini Chidambaram

A GROUP of women lawyers have come out in support of Ms Nalini Chidambaram's appearance for the Income-Tax Department in Chennai High Court.

Pointing out that she is one of the few senior women counsels in the male-dominated legal profession, they stated it is surprising that this controversy is being raised when she has appeared to protect the interest of the tax department rather than act against it.

The lawyers include Ms Pallavi Shroff, Ms Anuradha Dutt, Ms Indu Malhotra, Ms Fereshte Sethna, Ms Ritu Bhalla, Ms Lakshmi Menon and Ms Meenakshi Arora.

Just because Ms Chidambaram, who is a professional, is also the wife of a political leader, it does not mean she cannot pursue her own independent career or that she has to take consent of her husband before accepting professional matters," they said in a statement.
