Kolkata , Sept. 1

AS part of its efforts to reduce costs and improve forecast accuracy, among other things, Eveready Industries India Ltd (EIIL) is implementing the Oracle E-Business Suite enterprise application software on a Linux platform at an investment of Rs 5.5 crore.

The initiative is expected to generate returns for the company within the next two-and-a-half years, according to Mr Ajit Ghatak, Senior General Manager of EIIL.

Addressing reporters here, Mr Ghatak said the enterprise-wide application would encompass eight factories, 15 branch offices and warehouses located across the country. It is expected that implementation of the Oracle applications will result in a 20 per cent reduction in pipeline inventory and 10 per cent reduction in work-in-progress inventory. The forecast accuracy would go up from 60 per cent at present to 85 per cent and better performance management of individual cost and profit centres would be ensured. The number of retail outlets would go up from 1.5 million to two million by 2007.
