South Zone lifts title

Udhagamandalam: South Zone men raced to a 2-1 win over Headquarters and claimed the men's team title in the FCI all-India inter-zonal badminton championship at the Anna Stadium here on Thursday. Earlier, North Zone got the better of South Zone 3-2 to clinch the table tennis team title.

The results:

Badminton: Men's team event final: South Zone bt Headquarters 2-1 (Ayyappan lost to Tanveer Gill 8-15, 4-15; Ayyappan & V. Arun bt Davender Dhillon & Tanveer Gill 15-13, 17-15; V. Arun bt Maneesh Rawat 15-7, 15-5).

Men's singles semifinals: Romit Dudej (WZ) bt Maneesh Rawat (HQ) 15-10, 15-11. Doubles: Tanveer Gill (HQ) w/o S. Bhubera.

Table tennis: Team event final: North Zone bt South Zone 3-2 (Harsh Chopra lost to M. Subash 11-6, 15-17, 9-11, 11-7, 5-11; Nitin Mahajan bt R.S. Raja 11-7, 12-10, 8-11, 11-9; Ashish Duklani bt A.G. Jawahar 11-6, 11-6, 11-7; Harsh Chopra lost to R.S. Raja 3-11, 11-8, 5-11, 4-11; Nitin Mahajan bt M. Subash 11-7, 11-6, 9-11, 11-4).
