Family members gagged, one suffers eye injury

BANGALORE: An eight-member gang struck at a farmhouse in Doddaballapur taluk of Bangalore Rural district in the early hours of Thursday and looted gold ornaments worth Rs. 80,000 and Rs. 4,000 in cash after attacking three persons with lethal weapons.

The police said the incident occurred around 1.30 a.m. at Bachappa's secluded farmhouse in Bisuvanahalli village. As it was raining, Bachappa's daughter-in-law, Manjula, opened the door to remove clothes that were hung to dry outside.

The dacoits, who were waiting near the house, attacked Manjula. When she raised an alarm, Bachappa and his daughter, Lakshmamma, came out. The dacoits gagged the two women and relieved them of two gold chains, a necklace, four rings and two pairs of ear studs.

They also made away with Rs. 4,000 in cash, silver articles and some bank documents that were in an almirah. When Bachappa (70) resisted their attack, they hit him with an iron rod, injuring him in the eye, the police said.

While Bachappa, a native of Yelahanka, has been admitted here, Manjula and Lakshmamma were treated at the Government Hospital in Doddaballapur, the police said.

Quoting the victims, the police said the Kannada and Telugu speaking dacoits, dressed in shorts and vests, were aged around 25. The Doddaballapur Rural police have registered a case.
