A DAY after the process for modernisation and restructuring of the Delhi and Mumbai airports kicked off, the Airports Authority of India Joint Employees Forum announced that they would strike work on September 29 to protest against the Government policies.

The decision to participate in the strike is likely to lead to disruption of air services across the country as about 20,000 employees of AAI from diverse fields including engineering and ground handling are likely to abstain from work.

"We have decided to participate in the country wide strike that has been called by the sponsoring committee of the Central Trade Unions. Work in all 124 airports in the country will come to a standstill on September 29," the General Secretary, Airports Authority Employees Union (AAEU), Mr M.K. Ghoshal, said.

The AAI Employees Forum has sent a communication to the Chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Mr K. Ramalingam, informing him about the decision to strike work on September 29.
