Tips on safe driving

Booklet being distributed to motorists at six city junctions

CHENNAI: Do you know the different methods of driving? What about the distance to be maintained from the vehicle in front? Or the speed at which a vehicle should be driven in different weather conditions?

These are some of the subjects covered in a small booklet, Safe Chennai — No Entry for reckless driving, brought out by the Chennai City Traffic Police, Indian Oil Corporation, Auto Monitor and Overdrive.

Two categories

The booklet classifies driving into two categories: aggressive and alert. It talks about vehicle speeds and says that it is not advisable to drive at high speed or very slowly. Both are dangerous.

There are tips on driving a vehicle in winter. Special care must be taken in fog, rain, high winds during winter, it thoughtfully points out.

Proper distance

There are tips on the proper distance to be maintained from the vehicle in front, night driving and securing the cooperation of the co-passenger when driving.

K.C. Mahali, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, distributed the booklet on Wednesday at the Ega theatre signal.

K.R. Suresh Kumar, Deputy General Manager, Indian Oil Corporation, Retail Sales, said the booklet would be distributed at six points in the city, including Anna Nagar Round Tana, Broadway junction, Ega junction, Madhya Kailas signal, Nandanam signal and Spencer's junction on Anna Salai.
