Terry Fox gallery opened

CHENNAI: The Terry Fox open gallery, named after a young athlete who died of cancer, was inaugurated at The Velammal International School in Panchetti by former Pondicherry Chief Minister, V.Vaithilingam last week. M.V.Muthuramalingam, chairman of Velammal Educational Trust was present at the unveiling.

Free diabetes camp

A free diabetes detection camp will be organised jointly by Lions Club of Thiruvanmiyur and Canara Bank, Gopalapuram, at the bank premises on Avvai Shanmugam Salai on Saturday from 9.30 a.m. onwards.

Eye camp

An eye camp and eye donation awareness programme will be organised jointly by Balakrishnan Eye Hospital, Saidapet and Lions Club of Golden City on September 29 from 2 p.m. onwards. About 100 people are expected to pledge to donate their eyes at the programme at Karunai Illam, 74-B, LDG Road, Little Mount.

Hypnosis show at Ethiraj College

A hypnosis show by Nagesh of Hyderabad will be conducted on Friday at Ethiraj College as part of the association day celebrations of the Department of Psychology.

Boy falls to death

from third floor

A five-year-old boy died after falling from the third floor at a construction site at Tiruvanmiyur on Tuesday night.

According to police, the boy, K.Gokula Kannan, was playing on the third floor at a construction site on Lattice Bridge Road, when he fell to the ground at 11.15 a.m..

He was taken to the Government Royapettah Hospital, from where he was referred to the Government General Hospital.

However, the boy died around 2 p.m., police said. Tiruvanmiyur police have registered a case under section 174 (unnatural death) and are investigating.

Minister's driver knocked down

Nallasivam (55), Animal Husbandry Minister P.V. Damodhiran's driver, died after he was hit by a speeding motorcycle at Karappakkam on Tuesday.

The police said that the victim was returning home in the night when the accident occurred.

After alighting from a bus he was walking towards his house when the two-wheeler hit him from behind. Nallasivam fell on the road and sustained severe head injuries.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The two-wheeler rider fled, abandoning the vehicle. Thorappakkam police have registered a case and are investigating.
