THE UK-based D1 Oils Plc is planning to commission its first refinery in Chennai early next year.

Disclosing this at a press conference, the company's CEO (Global Operations), Mr Philip Wood, said the plant has been intended for production of bio-diesel. "Initially, we will not be running it on jatropha. We will commission it with palmolein and when we have sufficient quantity of the jatropha seed for crushing, we will switch over," he said.

The machinery is being imported from the northern part of the UK. "The oil crushing capacity of the plant is 8,000 tonnes a year," he said.

Stating that it would be a 100 per cent bio-fuel plant, he said the company would be investing close to Rs 30 crore on refinery and research in India.
