Earthquake rocks Indonesia

JAKARTA: An earthquake of 5.6 magnitude rocked Indonesia's North Sulawesi city of Manado and North Maluku city of Ternate on Sunday morning, an official of the Jakarta Meteorological and Geophysical Body (BMG) said.

"But, so far, we have yet to receive any report about material and human casualties,'' Antara news agency quoted the BMG official, Lukito, as saying.

The official did not specify the timing of the earthquake. But he added that the quake could have had a serious impact if it occurred on the ground, he said.

The epicentre of the quake was 1.5 degree of North Latitude and 128.5 degree of East Longitude and a depth of 33 km beneath the sea, he added.
