Thiruvananthapuram , Sept. 27

KERALA Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) is looking for companies to run quality control laboratories at two of its industrial parks in the State.

According to Kinfra officials, the corporation is looking for partners to operate quality control laboratories at the Kinfra Food Processing Park near Kozhikode and the Kinfra Small Industries Park at Mazhuvannur in Ernakulam district.

In both the cases, the laboratories are being established as part of the common amenities in the industrial park.

Meanwhile, the Union Commerce Ministry has decided, in principle, to grant special economic zone (SEZ) status to the animation zone at the Kinfra Film and Video Park in Thiruvananthapuram.

Twenty-five acres of land at the park has been set aside for the animation zone. Facilities at the animation zone, in which Kinfra is expected to invest around Rs 16 crore, include air-conditioned animation studio modules, a motion capture laboratory and fully functional incubation centres.

Construction of a building with a built-up area of 1,00,000 square feet has already begun.

Companies can either buy space within this building or acquire land for their own building within the animation zone, said a senior company official.

Kinfra is also looking to work with private sector players to jointly construct buildings and other facilities within the animation zone, the official said.

The company is also working out plans to set up an international animation school, with private sector participation, within the animation zone.

The Union Government has granted in-principle approval to the proposal to create an SEZ for electronics hardware at the Kinfra Hi-Tech Park in Ernakulam.

Approval has also been given for a 30-acre SEZ within the Kinfra Food Processing Park in Kozhikode, the official said.
