Festive cheer for special children

CHENNAI: Udhavum Ullangal is seeking to bring festive cheer to the lives of more than 1,000 destitute and physically and mentally-challenged children. This registered public charitable trust has been celebrating the festival with such children for the past eight years.

The celebrations for this year are scheduled for October 16 at the Krishnaswamy Kalyana Mandapam on the South Boag Road in T. Nagar.

The event that will involve providing 1,200 children — from orphanages, schools for the blind, homes for the mentally and physically challenged and street children, new clothes — a meal and an entertainment programme is estimated to cost around Rs. 4 lakhs.

Tickets in denominations of Rs. 100, Rs. 200 and Rs. 500 have been printed to raise required funds. Those interested in contributing may contact Udhavum Ullangal at 55615591 or 9444194743.
