Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended between 9 a.m and 5 p.m on Thursday for maintenance work in parts of Kondithope Thirupalli Venkatesa Maistry, WW II and III lane.

Pet adoption

The annual pet adoption programme will be held at Old Abacus School, Besant Avenue, near Karpagam Gardens in Adyar on October 2 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Blue Cross of India said that kittens will be available for adoption. "If one in 50 families can adopt a kitten, there will be no more stray cats on the road," a press release said. All adoptions are free. Those interested may call 2230 0666/ 2235 4959.

Eye camp

Dr.Agarwal's Eye Hospital started its free eye evaluation camp recently to celebrate its 48th anniversary. People interested in getting a free evaluation for Zypotix-100 Lasik Laser Surgery may do so before December 24. The cost of evaluation usually is about Rs.5000, Dr.Amar Agarwal said.

NSS workshop

Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society and University of Madras organised a one-day red ribbon club management workshop for NSS programme officers of colleges located in Thiruvallur district recently at the DRBCCC Hindu College premises.

S.Rajadurai, Joint Director, Medical Rural Health Service, inaugurated the workshop.

Paediatric camp

A free paediatric camp was conducted for residents of Tiruvellore on Sunday by the R.Misrilal Anchibai Charitable Trust in association with the Kanchi Kamakoti Childs Trust Hospital, Nungambakkam, and Ayesha Hospital, Vepery.

About 285 children were screened and given necessary medication, 41 were X-rayed, 186 underwent various tests and 78 were referred to the Kanchi Kamakoti Childs Trust Hospital for further treatment.

Bank's gesture

The State Bank of India donated bedsheets, grinder, gas-stove, water-purifier and dress materials to students of Government College Girl's Hostel for Blind at Lady Wellington Campus, Triplicane on Tuesday. Pratip Chaudhuri, Chief General Manager of SBI and M.K.Subramaniam, former Deputy General Manager distributed the materials.

Temple cleaned

Volunteers of Sevas, a social-service organisation, cleaned the Arulmigu Vengeeswarar temple at Vadapalani on Sunday. Those interested in becoming volunteers of the organisation may call 2241 2582.

Exhibition, quiz

Vel's College of Science will organise an inter-school exhibition and quiz competition `Intelexia 2005' on October 1. There is no entry fee and the competition is open to all students of Biology studying in Class 11 and 12.
