Award for Kulandai Swamy

CHENNAI: : The MAC Charities has announced the names of persons selected for this year's Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar, Dr. M.A. Chidambaram Chettiar and Dr. A.C. Muthiah awards for excellence in various fields.

According to a press release, technical educationist and eminent hydro-engineer V.C. Kulandai Swamy has been selected for the Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar Award for "outstanding contribution to Tamil language and literature."

This year's Dr. M.A. Chidambaram Chettiar Award for "excellence in fine arts" has been given to Thiruppampuram S. Shanmugasundaram. He has several books and papers on Tamil music, musicology and music literature to his credit, the release said.

The Dr. A.C. Muthiah Award for "excellence in first-generation entrepreneurship" will be conferred on Palani G. Periasamy, chairman, Dharani Group of Companies.

The awards, which carry a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and a citation in a silver casket, will be presented on October 12.
