Four arrested, jewellery recovered

BELLARY: Gandhi Nagar police have arrested four persons and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs. 6.8 lakhs from them.

With this, six cases of house break-in and theft — five in Bellary city and one in Koppal town — which occurred in the past two months, have been solved, Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Thakur said.

Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, Mr. Thakur said that based on a tip off that the four persons were seen near the railway station here, a police team rushed to the spot and arrested them.

The names of the arrested were given as Somashekar (26), Hyderabad Somashekar (29), Basya (30) and Bhaskar (28), all residents of the city. Police are on the look out for another member of the gang, Korchara Maresh. Mr. Thakur said Somashekar was wanted in 26 cases of thefts, and all the arrested are habitual offenders.

The arrested had confessed to the crime they committed in Satyanarayanpet, Gandhi Nagar and Venkataramananagar in Bellary city and in Koppal town, he said.

Mr. Thakur said the gang is wanted in several cases of thefts that took place in various districts in the State and in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
