Our Bureau

VISAKHAPATNAM: The citizens of Vizag will be able to drive their vehicles on legally permitted liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from today.

An LPG bunk will be opened by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd at Vadlapudi. Vizag is the third city after Hyderabad and Tirupati to have an LPG bunk.

Three-wheeler and four-wheeler owners can install converter kits and get an endorsement by the Road Transport Authority officials on their C-books to run their vehicles on LPG. These kits cost around Rs 24,000 -Rs 25,000. The HPCL Senior Regional Manager (Retail), Mr Sushanta Dhar, and the Senior Divisional Manager, Mr Ajit Kumar, told reporters here on Tuesday that the outlet at Vadlapudi had been set up as a pilot project. LPG-run vehicles emit 50 per cent less carbon dioxide than petrol.
