Altercation over petty issue led to crime

NEW DELHI: An alleged bad character of Narela police station and his associate have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police for allegedly killing a security guard outside an ATM centre at Bawana in North-West Delhi on July 13.

Acting on a tip-off, the Special Team of the Crime Branch had laid a trap on Main Bawana Road in North-West Delhi on Saturday. The two suspects riding a motorcycle arrived around 1-45 p.m. When the police tried to stop them, one of them opened fire at the police team. However, no one was injured and the police managed to overpower the duo.

They have been identified as Surender Khatri alias Samundar (29) and Harkesh alias Munna (22). A country-made revolver and two live cartridges were recovered from them.

The police said Kesar Singh, a security guard employed at an ATM centre in Bawana, was Samundar's neighbour in his village Mamoorpur (Narela). A few days before the incident, the two had an altercation over a petty issue after which Samundar decided to kill Kesar.

He roped in Harkesh, who worked in a polish factory, and another associate, Mulayam Singh, for the same. The trio had planned to kill Kesar on July 10, but could not as he was not alone.

According to the police, Samundar, who worked for the notorious Anoop gang of Mitraon, had told Harkesh that if he helped him, he (Samundar) would help in killing Jaiveer. Jaiveer, belonging to Harkesh's village, had some old enmity.
