Alarm at Delhi airport as aircraft returns

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Indira Gandhi International Airport here was put on high alert on Monday as the pilot of an Air Sahara flight to Hyderabad decided to return to the airport minutes after taking off as he noticed some trouble in one of the engines.

As the pilot informed Air Traffic Control about the situation in view of which he wanted to make the "precautionary landing'', all emergency procedures were adopted at the airport and ambulances, fire-fighters and teams of the Quick Reaction Team of the Central Industrial Security Force were deployed along the runway to meet any exigency.

To everyone's relief, the S2-145 flight -- which was bound for Kochi via Hyderabad -- made a safe landing at the airport at 11-40 a.m.
