Back Pierre Cardin to hire Indian merchandisers

PIERRE Cardin, the global fashion label, plans to hire Indian merchandisers for its China operations.

The company will hire about 45 personnel with experience in production planning, controlling and troubleshooting. The product categories in which masters and specialists are required are suits, jackets and trousers; fabric quality; casual trousers and jeans; formal and casual shirts; nightwear and pyjamas; knitwear- t-shirts, pullovers, underwear, socks and outerwear; sportswear and swim wear; garment accessories, leather jacket, belts and leather goods, and leather and synthetic shoes.

The qualifications required are master's or bachelor's degrees in textile technology and graduate degrees from the National Institute of Fashion Technology. Mr R. Narasimhan, Manager, Jerry Varghese Consultants, the manpower recruitment agency that has been entrusted with the recruitment, said that this was the second batch being recruited by the company. The response to the advertisement was good, he said.

Commenting on this development, Ms Reshma Rao, General Secretary, Apparel and Handloom Exporters Association, said that Indian textile technologists have been hired to work in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Dubai by Indian companies. Indian garment exporters had set up garment factories there to beat the quota system. This seems to be a new trend, she added.

Mr Mohan Sadhwani, Executive Director, The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India, said that there is no doubt about the large talent pool in India. So it is inevitable that these big labels look for people here.

Pierre Cardin was one of the couturiers to bring fashion to the streets and revolutionise men's styles. He set up operations throughout the world, notably in Japan, China and Russia.
