NEW DELHI: The Centre has ordered an inquiry into an alleged sting operation carried out by a private television channel against a Medical Council of India office-bearer where he has reportedly been shown accepting money for granting clearance to a private medical college. "I have asked the Union Health Secretary to probe the matter and we can refer the case to the CBI also, if need be,'' Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss told reporters here on Monday. He added that he had time and again received complaints of corruption in the MCI and its direct impact was on the medical education system. "I have always believed that the MCI needs to be more accountable and as of now there is no coordination between the MCI and the Ministry,'' he added. The Ministry has already moved a Bill in Parliament seeking amendments to the MCI Act. The Bill is pending with the Standing Committee.
