Bangalore: President of the State unit of the Samajwadi Party and Shimoga MP S. Bangarappa and his son Madhu Bangarappa on Thursday urged Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh against taking up construction of a dam across the Varada river in Hanagal taluk of Haveri district. Mr. Madhu Bangarappa, who led the delegation, said that a survey for the construction of a dam was going on and it was found that it would not be feasible and it would also displace a large number of people.
Memorandum
While the delegation was presenting the memorandum to the Chief Minister, Mr. Bangarappa also telephoned him and reiterated the demand. Mr. Singh, however, told the delegation that he would consider their request at the time of taking a final decision on the dam.
