Back Water levels decline slightly in Kerala reservoirs

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Water levels at the three major reservoirs in the State - Idukki, Idamalayar and Kallada - have recorded a slight decline when compared to last week levels.

This could be attributed to the fact that the northeast monsoon has failed to rev up to the levels expected in the catchment areas falling largely in Idukki district. According to figures released by the Central Water Commission, the level had declined from 2394.16 ft to 2393.44 ft week-on-week at Idukki; 550 ft to 547.54 ft at Idamalayar, and 371.39 ft to 370.34 ft at Kallada.

When compared with the levels recorded a year ago, the Idukki and Idamalayar reservoirs recorded increase in levels of 16.02 ft and 25.79 ft respectively. But the Kallada reservoir showed a decline of 1.38 ft from the level a year ago.
