Rain claims three lives in Krishnagiri

Boil water to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases, district administration tells people

Krishnagiri: Three persons were killed due to heavy rain that lashed various parts of Krishnagiri on Thursday. According to the police, Siva (35) a mason of Krishnagiri, died when the wall of his house collapsed.

In another incident, Radha (27) and Chinnapillai (50) of Thally were washing clothes in the Maarkandeya River when they were washed away in the flash floods. With this, the rain toll in the district has increased to five.

The Kondaman Lake in Mathur breached its bunds and washed away a section of the Pondicherry-Bangalore National Highway at Mathur. Traffic is now being diverted through Pocchampalli. The Highways Department has taken up restoration of the road.

Collector Mangat Ram Sharma has ordered the Commissioners of Krishnagiri and Hosur Municipalities and all Block Development Officers to purify drinking water before supply.

The district administration has also appealed to the people to boil water to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases.

Medical teams were kept ready at all Government and taluk hospitals in the district to help the flood-hit, he said.

Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare Inbathtamilan visited the flood-hit areas in Krishnagiri, Avadhanpatti, Chinnamuthur, Periyamuthur, Kaveripattinam, Thally and Hosur on Friday.

Rainfall

The average rainfall recorded in Krishnagiri in the past 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Friday is as follows: Nedungal: 11 mm, Shoolagiri: 12 mm, Rayakottai: 13 mm, Pocchampalli: 13.06 mm and Barur: 10.04 mm.
