`pranadana scheme'

Tirumala: Karthik of Hyderabad on Sunday donated Rs. 5 lakhs for the TTD's `pranadana scheme' aimed at providing financial assistance to people suffering with chronic diseases. A demand draft for the amount was handed over to TTD Special Officer A.V. Dharma Reddy.

Two die as tempo

falls off bridge

GUNTUR: A software engineer, A. Ramu, and a cleaner of a 13-seater Tempo Maxi Cab died when the vehicle fell on the railway track from a road over bridge on the outskirts of Vinukonda on Sunday.

Ramu was taking his family friends to Srisailam when the accident occurred. He got the job in a company in Hyderabad recently. The cleaner of the vehicle is yet to be identified, while all the injured persons were referred to the Guntur Government General Hospital for treatment. - Staff Reporter

Ganja seized

NIZAMABAD : A police special party conducted raids in Ravutla village of Sirikonda mandal on Sunday and recovered ganja from the house of one Tota Rajender. The party also destroyed ganja crop in one acre belonging to him. The estimated cost of the ganja recovered and destroyed was put at Rs. 20 lakhs. - Staff Reporter

Nellore : Sixteen girijans, who were stranded in Anumasamdurampet mandal, due to recent heavy rain, were at last rescued. All the tribals were surrounded by rainwater. - Staff Reporter

Optional holiday

for courts today

HYDERABAD: In a partial modification of its notification, the High Court has declared holiday on November 1, on account of Deepavali, instead of October 31. It has declared optional holiday on Monday on account of Shab-e-Qadar to the court and all its subordinate courts in the State.

SFI State meet to be

held at Ongole

HYDERABAD : The 16th State conference of Students' Federation of India will be held at Ongole on November 4 and 5.

It will discuss the Supreme Court's verdict on reservations in unaided colleges, foreign educational institutions, FDI in education sector and examination reforms.

Cash bag stolen from

scooter compartment

Nellore: Unidentified culprits took away a bag containing Rs. 1.30 lakhs from the two-wheeler of a Headmaster, in Gudur town on Saturday.

According to available information, N. Maheswara Raju, was working as HM, Zilla Parishad high school, at Anantamadugu of Sydapuram mandal.

A complaint has been lodged with the One Town police station.

CPI(M) activists

stage rasta roko

KADAPA: CPI(M) members and people of Ramakrishnanagar staged a rasta roko on Sunday alleging that R & B officials diverted water which caused flooding of Ramakrishnanagar area.

No official visited the area so far although 37 houses were fully damaged and 60 houses partially damaged in the area, CPI(M) town Secretary K. Anjaneyulu alleged. Kadapa RDO Prabhakar Pillai assured distribution of 25 kg of rice and two litres of kerosene to families rendered homeless.
