Best CEO award for VSP chief

VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Chairman and Managing Director Y. Siva Sagar Rao has been presented the `best chief executive award' for his outstanding contribution to the growth of the public sector.

Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation Oscar Fernandes gave away the award to Mr. Rao at the Rajiv Ratna National Award-2005 presentation function held recently in Delhi. - Staff Reporter

Industrialist donates diamond necklace

Tirumala: A Delhi-based industrialist Sanjay, president and CEO of Pasco Automobiles Limited, on Thursday donated a diamond necklace to Lord Venkateswara.

Mr. Sanjay also gave a cheque for Rs.2 lakhs for TTD's Pranadana Trust and handed over the donations to Tirumala-based Special Officer A.V. Dharma Reddy.

Principal of Government College, Rajampet, Kadapa, M. Sankar Naidu donated Rs.45,000 towards various endowment schemes of the TTD. - Staff Reporter

Revision of electoral rolls postponed

HYDERABAD: The Election Commission has postponed the schedule of special summary revision of electoral rolls, 2006, in Makthal Assembly constituency till completion of the by-election on December 10.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer Phani Kumar, in an official release, said that the commission also rescheduled the special summary revision of electoral rolls-2006 in Nellore district.

A special campaign for receiving claims and objections will be organised on November 12, 13, 26 and 27 at all designated locations. - Special Correspondent

Appointed one-man panel chief

HYDERABAD: N. Rangachary, Advisor to the Government, has been appointed Chairman of the one-man committee to go into anomalies in the Pay Revision Commission, 2005, recommendations.

Awarded five-year jail term

ELURU: Additional Assistant Sessions Judge V.R.K. Krupasagar on Thursday sentenced Basina Venugopal of Eastern Street here to undergo five years imprisonment for outraging the modesty of a housewife.

According to the prosecution, Venugopal committed the crime when the woman was staying alone in her house in 2003. - Staff Reporter

Four killed in accidents

Nellore: Four persons were killed in Nellore district on Thursday in various accidents. One person was killed following a collision between an RTC bus and an autorickshaw at Narasapuram village. At Perumallapadu village, a woman was killed when her house collapsed. At Kavali, a 30-year-old person lost his life after he fell under the rear side of a vehicle. A 50-year-old person was electrocuted at Kammavaripalem village. - Staff Reporter

Free training in IT

TIRUPATI: The district Youth Services Department has decided to conduct a free three-month training programme in Information Technology and communication skills, as part of an agreement entered into with National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT). Those in the age group of 18-35 years with a family income not exceeding Rs.50,000 per annum have to appear before the Youth services officer at SETVEN office premises on Alipiri road (opp. Microwave station) with original certificates on November 16. Student drowned in canal

KURNOOL: A student, Ramalinga Reddy, was drowned in the Telugu Ganga canal at Nagireddipalli in Rudravaram mandal of Kurnool district on Thursday. According to reports, the student who came to the native place for a holiday visited the field and accidentally fell in the canal while crossing it.

YSR's visit cancelled

KADAPA: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's proposed visit of Kadapa on November 12 has been following the demise of former President K.R. Narayanan, according to official sources.

Kadapa District Review Committee meeting slated on November 11 has also been cancelled due to pre-occupation of Information Minister Mohd. Ali Shabbir, incharge Minister for the district.

Plea on teachers' transfers

VIZIANAGARAM: Andhra Pradesh Upadhyaya Sangham (APUB) has demanded that teachers who had applied for inter-district transfers in 2003 be issued orders prior to issuing appointment orders to DSC candidates lest it would create problems relating to seniority, according to a press release. — Correspondent

Filaria awareness rally

Kakinada: The District Medical and Health Officer SSC Chakrarao has flagged off the filaria awareness rally at the Filaria research and training centre in Sriramnagar here on Thursday. He said in the sixth round of Filaria eradication programme to be held on Friday DEC tablets would be administered to all the people deploying volunteers. Kakinada: The Municipal Corporation at its first meeting here on Thursday paid rich tributes to the memory of late K R Narayanan, the former President of India. The Mayor K Saroja moved a resolution paying homage. Later the Mayor adjourned the meeting in respect of late President. — Correspondent

Loans sought for cyclone-hit ryots

Kakinada: The East Godavari Collector Anil Kumar Singhal called upon the bankers to come to the rescue of ryots who suffered heavily during the recent cyclone by advancing Rs.1,000 to each ryot as the immediate assistance in addition to rescheduling of the loans. Presiding over the district level bankers special advisory committee meeting here on Thursday, he said, standing crop in 3.70 lakh acres was damaged in the rains. — Correspondent
