Double for Natasha

BANGALORE: An athletic meet sans standards! Records were at a premium, as the first day's events in the junior State athletics championship resembled an inter-house competition of some school. Forget the crowds, the men and women's 100m event had a direct final.

Of note was Natasha Sagar's performance. The Indo German girl bagged a double when she won the 100m and the 100m hurdles.

Satyanarayana, the KAA secretary admitted, "there was every reason to cancel the meet itself after the venue was shifted from Mandya. With various other meets — the junior Nationals at Chennai — for which this is a basis for selection, the state level pre-university meet and the state school athletics championships to follow soon there was no chance of a postponement. Besides a 48 strong Sri Lankan contingent had already confirmed its participation for this meet and we could not disappoint them," he added.
