Presentation on traffic, security

NEW DELHI: The Events Knowledge Services (EKS) of the Commonwealth Games Federation made a presentation on security and traffic arrangements for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi at Raj Nivas here on Friday.

On the occasion, the Lieutenant-Governor, B.L. Joshi, impressed upon the participants to evolve a security plan after taking into account local features like the stadiums and games village and the traffic flow. The meeting decided to send a delegation of police officers to Melbourne to study the security features there.

Parents' Day celebrated

NEW DELHI: Junior school children of Loreto Convent celebrated Parents' Day at their school premises earlier this week. To mark the occasion, the children organised a variety entertainment programme that included music, dance, skits and poetry recitation. The school principal Sr. Claire was the chief guest at the function.

Education week planned

NEW DELHI: The United States Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) will celebrate and promote international education and exchanges across the country during the "International Education Week" beginning this coming Monday.

A series of events to engage students, scholars and professionals in dialogue would be held at USEFI offices in Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai besides its satellite centres in Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

`Aspirin can save lives'

NEW DELHI: Delhi Medical Association president K.K. Aggarwal on Saturday said lakhs of deaths could be prevented every year by giving aspirin and administering clopidogrel to heart attack patients.

"Aspirin is a standard emergency treatment but administering clopidogrel, the world's fourth biggest selling drug, on a person who had suffered a heat attack could help save his/her life. Early administering of clopidogrel could prevent 50,000 deaths and 50,000 non-fatal heart attacks and strokes," added Dr. Aggarwal at a function here. "The drug is complementary to aspirin but works in a different way. The minimum period required for the administering of drug is two weeks."

Comonomics carnival concludes

NEW DELHI: The two-day 11th Manav Sthali Annual Inter-School Comonomics Carnival held at the school's premises concluded here on Friday.

Organised by the Manav Sthali Commerce Association, the carnival provided a platform to higher secondary school children to interact with each other in a healthy intellectual environment and also helped them know what was happening in the world of business and finance. Eminent academician and writer G.S. Grewal was the chief guest at the event.
