Back Railways earnings up 12.6 pc in Oct Our Bureau
New Delhi , Nov. 15 INDIAN Railways earned a total of Rs 4,363.4 crore during October 2005, registering a 12.6 per cent increase over the Rs 3,875.29 crore earned during October 2004, as per official estimates. This includes Rs 1,208.76 crore of passenger earnings and Rs 2,900.81 crore of freight earnings during the month this fiscal. While the passenger earnings during October 2005 were marginally higher by 1.65 per cent against the same period last fiscal, the freight earnings were higher by 13.04 per cent. On a basis, it registered total earnings of Rs 29,933.68 crore during the seven-month period between April 1 and October 31, 2005 against Rs 26,067.29 crore during the corresponding period last year, an increase of 14.83 per cent, said an official statement. The total earnings were 4.87 per cent more than the budgeted target of Rs 28,544.16 crore. The total goods earnings of Rs 19,861.93 crore have shown an increase of 17.32 per cent during April-October 2005 over Rs 16,929.60 crore for corresponding period last year. Meanwhile, the total passenger revenues were Rs 8,876.87 crore with an increase of 8.89 per cent over Rs 8,152.22 crore. The overall passenger bookings showed a 6.44 per cent increase with 338.558 crore passengers booked this fiscal against 318.082 crore.
