Jail warder arrested

BANGALORE: A case of a jail employee supplying ganja to prisoners has come to light at the high security Parappana Agrahara Central prison in the city.

According to prison sources, on November 4, jail warder Mahesh Babu was caught red-handed by Superintendent of the Prison C.S. Raju, while he was allegedly supplying a ganja sachet to a prisoner.

On frisking, the prison authorities found that Babu had concealed 10 sachets of ganja in his shoes, for supplying them to prisoners. Subsequently, the authorities searched Babu's house in the Prison Quarters and found 88 sachets of ganja, the sources said.

On a complaint by the prison authorities, the Madivala police have arrested Babu. He is now remanded in judicial custody, the sources said.

Even in the past, incidents of drugs being supplied to prisoners at the Bangalore Central Prison have been reported. In some cases, the drugs sachets were concealed in food items, particularly in idlis, and supplied to the inmates.
