One arrested on

murder charge

NEW DELHI: A man allegedly involved in a robbery-cum-murder case at Ashok Vihar in North-West Delhi this August was arrested in Dehra Dun by the Crime Branch on Sunday. The accused, Tek Chand, and his accomplices had robbed a businessman, Pradeep Gupta, of Rs. 10 lakhs outside his house and shot dead his driver, Bhagwati Chaudhary, before fleeing from the scene on August 20. Acting on a tip-off that Tek Chand was hiding in the Mehuwala village of Dehra Dun, the police raided the place and arrested him.

Six alleged Bangladeshi criminals held

NEW DELHI: Six alleged Bangladeshi criminals were arrested by the Special Staff of the North-East Delhi police on Monday. Two country-made firearms, live cartridges and stolen properties were recovered from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Amir Khan, Salim, Mohammad Shahid, Mohammad Yusuf, Rafidul and Mohammad Litton. During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to their involvement in cases of burglary and theft.

cheating case

NEW DELHI: The North-East Delhi police claim to have worked out six cases of cheating of over Rs. 5 crores from banks by forging documents with the arrest of a resident of Shahdara in East Delhi.

Giving details of the case, the police said accused Jaideep Jain revealed that he along with his brothers conspired and mortgaged the properties of others by making forged documents. Two of his brothers are allegedly absconding.

Hoax call

NEW DELHI: A call claiming that a bomb had been planted at Pragati Maidan, where the India International Trade Fair is under way, led the police to comb the premises on Monday. The call was declared a hoax after no explosives were found.

Around 7-30 p.m., the police received an anonymous call in which the caller claimed that a bomb was going to explode at Pragati MaidanWhile the call was traced to a local public phone booth, the Bomb Disposal Squad carried out a search operation during which no explosives were found. The police are trying to identify the mischievous caller.

Girl rescued

NEW DELHI: An 11-year-old girl working as a domestic help at the Rajpura Road official residence of a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) engineer and allegedly being tortured by him for the past one year was rescued on Monday by a joint team of the police and non-government organisation Bachpan Bachao Andolan.
