MUMBAI: The rupee on Wednesday rallied smartly against the U.S. currency, recovering overnight losses on the back of strong exporter dollar sales following a retreating dollar overseas with market sentiment turning positive due to sustained healthy foreign fund inflows. In moderately active two-way trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee closed at 45.75/76 a dollar, a sharp eight paise gain from Tuesday's close of 45.83/84 but lower from the peak of 45.71/72 struck in late morning deals.
