MCD official abducted

NEW DELHI: In a tragic incident, one official of Delhi Municipal Corporation, who had been to his native village in Muzaffarnagar area to distribute invitation cards of his marriage, has been kidnapped by unidentified abductors.

Search operations have been launched in Muzaffaranagar district to trace the abducted official Pradeep Kumar, police said on Thursday. According to police sources, Mr. Kumar was going to Shimla from his village Hiranwara by his car and was kidnapped on the way. Police have recovered his car dumped in a jungle.

One arrested

NEW DELHI: A 29-year-old man allegedly engaged in supply of cocaine has been arrested by the Narcotics Branch of the Delhi Police. The police claim to have recovered 15 gm of cocaine from his possession.

The accused, Charanjeet Singh Chaddha, is a Class III dropout. He along with his family earlier lived in Kuwait, from where they went to the US. But because of a financial crisis, he had to come back to India in 2000. He was arrested there in a case of credit card forgery. Soon after he came out of jail, he was again arrested in another alleged credit card forgery case, following which his passport was impounded.

Charanjeet, who was allegedly addicted to cocaine, then began helping his father in his business by exporting articles to the US. In due course, he allegedly began supplying cocaine through his girlfriend to meet his expenses.

On November 14, he was arrested near a banquet hall at Kamla Nagar in North Delhi after 15 gm of cocaine was allegedly recovered from his possession.

"Delhi Media Summit"

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Union of Journalists is organising a "Delhi Media Summit" here this Friday.

The summit will take special note of unfair labour practices, attacks on presspersons and encroachments on the freedom of the press. The demand for a new Media Commission and delay in the constitution of a new Wage Board will also come up for discussion.

The changing phases of journalism after globalisation and implications of foreign media's entry into the country would also figure in the discussions.

The final session will be addressed by parliamentarians, media personalities and members of various political parties.

UCO Bank pulled up

NEW DELHI: A consumer court has ruled in favour of a man who faced serious financial losses after his cheque was dishonoured due to a wrong code number on his chequebook issued by UCO Bank.

``The wrong code was due to the negligence on the part of the Security Press but UCO Bank also cannot escape from the liability of being deficient in service,'' Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission headed by Justice J D Kapoor said while upholding the lower forum's order for token compensation.

School building

NEW DELHI: Delhi High Court on Thursday issued notice to Delhi Government for running a school in an unsafe building at Kanjhawala in the Capital.

Taking congnizance of a news report a division bench of Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma issued notice to Delhi Government asking it to file the reply by December 1.
