TAGIT Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based mobile solutions company, on Thursday announced the launch of its new mobile image recognition technology which will enable camera-phone users to connect with any media channel to obtain information or digital content from any advertised brand product or enterprise service.

The Tagit mobile image recognition technology consists of a system of visual tags with digitised codes, which can be attached to any physical space or media channel, thereby allowing anyone with a camera-phone to make an immediate connection for "pulling" information or making a purchase.

Trials of the new technology are scheduled to commence in India this month exclusively on Nokia camera phones, company said in a release.

"Increasing adoption of camera-phones offers a huge potential for brand advertisers and enterprises as it speeds up fulfilment in response to customers needs," the release said quoting Mr Rajan Kapur, Chairman, Tagit.

"Mobile imaging and interactive content are emerging domains within the mobility industry. Innovative applications such as Tagit will help us interact with a larger pool of consumers and promote innovative usage of technology," the release quoted Mr Sanjiv Sharma, Managing Director, Nokia Mobile Phones India, as saying.

The process starts with one snap of the camera phone by which a user captures the "tagged" image. The Tagit application software then decodes and enables the user to obtain information about the product or service in both text and visual form. The user may decide to make a purchase through the transaction feature in Tagit, which will connect the user directly to the e-commerce site of the business.
