`World needs power of love'

NEW DELHI: "Realisation of truth removes the walls of hatred and the tendency of violence. Once man is united with God, he finds the entire mankind as one family. And what the world needs the most today is the power of love and not the love of power."

This was stated by Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj, Head of the Sant Nirankari Mission, over the weekend while addressing the 58th Annual Nirankari Sant Samagam. The three-day Samagam that began on Saturday is being attended by lakhs of devotees from all over India and abroad.

On Sunday, a Sewa Dal Rally was taken out in which a large number of men and women in uniform rededicated themselves to the service of humanity. They presented an impressive cultural programme to highlight the message of voluntary service to others.

College building inaugurated

NEW DELHI: "Education liberates the mind. The aim of education is to convert the mind into a living fountain and not a reservoir," said Delhi Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi after inaugurating a new building of Keshav Mahavidayalaya here on Sunday. Also present on the occasion were Prof. Deepak Pental, Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University; Sajjan Kumar, Member of Parliament; and Dr. S.C. Vats, Chairman, College Governing Body.

In his address, Mr. Joshi said unless it leads to a total personality development of an individual, education, in itself, gets reduced to an academic exercise. He said to remain relevant, the present day educational institutions are required to constantly evaluate their performance and examine whether the outcomes are satisfactory in the context of their goals.

Vishwa expo organised

NEW DELHI: Vishwa Bharati Public School, Noida, organised its annual exhibition-cum-project competition, `Vishwa Expo 2005', at its school premises this past Thursday. Fifteen schools from Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad participated in competition. On display were science and environment related projects prepared by the students. A symposium for students of Classes IX to XII was also held.

Excellence awards presented

NEW DELHI: Aimed at promoting and nurturing the culture of excellence in the organisation, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL)'s "Excel Awards" for the year 2004-05 were presented over the weekend. The annual awards are presented to BHEL employees for their meritorious achievements in various fields. Introduced in 2001, the objective of the "Excel Awards" scheme is to recognise, reward and place on record any direct or indirect outstanding contribution by an employee towards growth and profitability of the company and also society. The 4th such awards were presented at a function here on Saturday by Ashok K. Puri, Chairman and Managing Director, BHEL, to 28 employees.
