Manmohan calls up Jayalalithaa

CHENNAI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday assured full support to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in her Government's flood relief efforts.

Dr. Singh spoke to Ms. Jayalalithaa over phone and enquired about the situation. Ms. Jayalalithaa informed him of the relief operations undertaken by the State Government.

She reminded him of the State's request for an advance of Rs. 3,000 crore from the National Calamity Contingency Fund and requested him to release the amount expeditiously, an official press release said.
