Call for a public debate on Education Bill

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: With the proposed Free and Compulsory Education Bill all set to be tabled during the winter session of Parliament, the National Alliance for Right to Education and Equity (NAFRE) has called for a public debate on the subject and announced a month-long educational campaign to expose the Bill's drawbacks.

To be launched on November 28, the campaign will be held across 12 States in the country to create awareness about the Bill and build consensus on the issue of equity in education and the common school system.

Crucial time

"This is a very crucial time as the Central Government is going to make a legislation for the universalisation of elementary education. The market forces are very keen that this Bill gets passed and they can have influence in the Bill making bodies. The Bill will promote privatisation and commercialisation of education. We are advocating for a pro-people education Bill which will ensure equal education opportunities to every child," the NAFRE said in a statement.
