Demands Constitutional changes

NEW DELHI: Urging the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre to move a Central legislation in the current session of Parliament and bring about a Constitutional amendment to ensure social justice and equal opportunities for students from different economic backgrounds in higher education, the Students' Federation of India (SFI) on Saturday threatened to hold a nationwide protest in campuses across the country on December 13.

Addressing a press conference here, SFI general secretary K.K. Ragesh warned the UPA Government against agreeing to 100 per cent foreign direct investment in education in the GATS Agreement in Hong Kong on December 13. "If the Government went ahead, it would have to pay the same amount of subsidy to both categories of institutions."
